The Arrival of a New Moon
The Mini Galerie is thrilled to present the very first solo exhibition by Merijn Hos with the gallery titled The Arrival of a New Moon.
The exhibition features a joyous variety of multi-disciplinary works by visual artist and illustrator Merijn Hos. In conjunction with his characteristic line drawings The Arrival of a New Moon also introduces a brand new series of paintings and wooden sculptures.
Over the last few years Hos has been experimenting with acrylic paint on wood in order to take his drawings on paper a step further. In 2012 this artistic quest resulted in his famous Wood Sculptures, a playful series of hundreds of very loosely painted faces and creatures carved out of wood. Along with recent drawings and paintings the exhibition will present a new series of wooden sculptures that form a continuation of the artists’ exploration of the three-dimensional domain. With an on-going fascination for the spontaneity of Folk Art and Art Brut Hos naively constructs sculptures of abstracted faces that recall the image of indigenous masks.
Merijn Hos (Enschede, 1978) earned a BFA degree in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in Utrecht, where he also currently lives and works. His art projects have been exhibited in galleries and museum world wide, from New York, to London and Australia, and he works on commissioned projects for clients like Dazed & Confused magazine, Coca Cola, Nike, KLM and the New York Times.
