Thomas Trum
Thomas Trum (1989) is a Dutch artist whose practice explores the relationship between paint, tools and the surface. He is known for developing unconventional painting techniques in which self-made and industrial tools determine the movement and structure of the work.
Trum works with materials such as acrylic paint and ink on paper, canvas and other surfaces. Using oversized markers, road-marking machines and custom-made tools, he creates continuous lines and rhythmic compositions in which the physical process of painting remains clearly visible.
Colour plays a central role in his work. Rather than using paint to depict an image, Trum focuses on its material qualities: how it moves, overlaps and responds to different tools and surfaces. His practice ranges from works on paper and canvas to large-scale, site-specific installations.
