Mini Galerie presents the solo exhibition by Utrecht-based artist Merijn Hos titled 5,972E24KG, referencing to the actual weight of the world. The exhibition showcases a new playful, gloomy series of 45 wooden sculptures.
“I’ve actually been working on this project on and off for one and a half years. It’s been quite a process. It started during the first lockdown, when I bought this kickass woodcutting machine. I started sawing out shapes, and gluing them together. Then I began to experiment with layering the wood with plaster and paint, and it looked like rough coloured clay. It actually looked cool, kind of naive.”
Merijn Hos (Enschede, 1978) earned a BFA degree in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in Utrecht. His art projects have been exhibited in galleries and museums world wide, from New York, to London and Australia, and he works on commissioned projects for clients like Dazed & Confused magazine, Coca Cola, Nike, KLM and the New York Times.
