Samantha Bittman
Samantha Bittman (born 1982, Chicago, United States) is an American artist who lives and works in Brooklyn.
Her works range between Op Art and geometric abstraction and make weaving and acrylic painting their raw materials.
Articulated weaves and relief surfaces deceive the perception of the viewer who enters into intricate visual schemes.
Like a modern Anni Albers, Samantha Bittman hand weaves her works meticulously following repetitive numerical data that translates into simple geometries and symmetrical layouts. Her geometric motifs are not limited to the canvas but often become wallpaper that cover the indoor architecture making them fade into the background.
Samantha Bittman studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and later at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, where she currently teaches.
